Annual report
Field filming and photography across three districts for an international NGO, edited into a donor film and designed into the annual report that used the same frames.
One trip, two deliverables
An NGO annual report and a donor film are usually commissioned separately, six months apart, from two suppliers, and the photography gets shot twice. We planned a single field production to serve both, which meant the photographer and the camera department worked to one shot list and one consent process.
The report's photography and the film's coverage are the same material, which is also why they look like one piece of work rather than two.
Consent is production, not paperwork
Filming programme participants requires informed consent that the person actually understood, in their own language, and a record of it. That is a production task with a cost and a schedule, and we treated it as one rather than as a form signed at the end of a shoot.
Two sequences we filmed are not in the film, because consent was withdrawn. That is the process working.
Working in three districts
Travel, power and light were the constraints, not the interviews. Batteries and data are the things that end a field day early, so the schedule was built around charging and offload windows rather than around how many locations could theoretically be reached.
What it produced
An eighteen minute donor film with Bangla and English subtitles, and an eighty page annual report set from the same frames, from one field production.
